Private travel eSIM
Most travel SIMs start with a passport scan and an email. Kokio starts with a passkey, keeps no customer profile, and runs on contracts you can read.
Buying a SIM abroad usually starts with a passport scan, a name and an email. That data doesn’t stay with one company. It gets copied to carriers, resellers and payment processors, and telecom is one of the most-breached industries there is. Our post on where your SIM data goes traces the whole path.
A data-only eSIM has no technical need to know who you are, so Kokio doesn’t ask.
What Kokio keeps
Nothing with your name on it. Kokio keeps what it needs to run your account: a wallet address, a device identifier, your passkey’s public key and your orders. You sign in with a passkey created with Face ID or your fingerprint, and its private key never leaves your phone’s secure hardware. There’s no password to steal, and no record of your name or email to sell, subpoena or leak. The privacy policy has the full list.
What still sees you
The mobile network still sees your device and logs an IP address while you’re connected, and your payment method keeps its own records. Card payments go through Stripe, and Apple Pay or Stripe Link may pass your name, email or phone number to Stripe under its own terms. If you’d rather not use a card, pay in crypto. A VPN covers your traffic, which no eSIM does on its own.
Why it’s built this way
We don’t think you should have to trust a provider with your identity to get online. So the account is a smart contract wallet, built on an open source contract suite audited by Ethereum Foundation PSE and by CD Security. You can read the code instead of reading our promises.
The manifesto sets out the reasoning. For the short version of what we skip at checkout, see no-KYC eSIM.

FAQ
- What personal information does Kokio collect?
- No name, email or ID. Your account is a wallet address, a device identifier and your passkey's public key, plus your orders. If you pay by card, Kokio also sees the card's brand, last four digits, expiry and country. The privacy policy lists everything.
- What happens to my data if Kokio is breached?
- A breach could expose wallet addresses, device identifiers and orders, but no names, emails or passport scans, because Kokio never stores them.
- Does a Kokio eSIM come with a phone number?
- No. Kokio plans are data-only, so calls and messages go through internet apps.
