Local SIM rules differ by country

Philippines: Under the SIM Registration Act, a tourist registering a local SIM shows a passport, a Philippine address and a return ticket, and the SIM stops working after 30 days unless the visa is extended. (Sources: Manila Shimbun, YugaTech)

Thailand: Since 16 May 2026, Thai operators must check a passport for every SIM sold to a foreign visitor, and visitors can register at most three SIMs per operator. (Sources: Yozzo, Tilleke & Gibbins)

Kokio asks for no ID at all: you sign in with a passkey, and we never collect your name or email.

FAQ

Which countries does the Southeast Asia eSIM cover?
China, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. It does not cover Malaysia, Indonesia or Cambodia, so pick a local plan for those.
Is one regional plan cheaper than separate local plans?
Not always. It depends on how long you stay in each country and how much data you use. The comparison table prices three sample trips both ways.
Do I need a new SIM or a passport at each border?
No. The same eSIM works in every covered country, and Kokio asks for no passport, name or email.
When does the Southeast Asia plan start?
On first data use. Install it at home on Wi-Fi, and the days start counting once you use data in a covered country.
Can I top up the Southeast Asia plan?
Yes. In checkout, switch to Top-up and pick the eSIM you already have.
