Network and coverage
Your eSIM roams on whichever eligible local network gives the best signal: KDDI, NTT Docomo, Rakuten, SoftBank. Some plans include 5G where the network offers it.
Why Kokio for Japan
Kokio asks for no ID at all: you sign in with a passkey, and we never collect your name or email.
Kokio plans connect by roaming, so there is no local SIM to register.
Pay by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, or crypto (USDC, USDT or DAI from a Kokio Wallet on Base, or other coins via MoonPay). The plan price is the same whichever way you pay, because Kokio covers the payment processing fees.
Tips for Japan
- Your eSIM can use any of Japan's four mobile networks: NTT Docomo, KDDI, SoftBank and Rakuten. If the signal is weak, choose another by hand in Settings → Mobile Service → your Kokio line → Network Selection.
- Plans start small, at 0.5 GB for 7 days, which covers maps and messages on a short stopover. Unlimited plans run for 3, 5, 7, 10, 15 or 30 days.
- Forgot to install before you flew? Narita, Haneda and Kansai have free airport Wi-Fi, enough to download the eSIM before you leave the terminal.
Setup
- Install the eSIM at home on Wi-Fi. It installs once only.
- Land at Narita (NRT) or Haneda (HND) or Kansai (KIX).
- iPhone: Settings → Mobile Service → choose the Kokio line for mobile data, with data roaming on.
- Not connecting? Toggle Airplane Mode, then pick a network manually.
